John Wilks joined MHPS as an associate in 2015. John’s practice at MHPS is primarily devoted to family, business, real estate and personal injury litigation. He also assists clients with estate planning and business formation.
About John R. Wilks
A native of Springfield, Tennessee, John Wilks grew up the son of a country lawyer, the late Larry D. Wilks, former President of the Tennessee Bar Association. John graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee, earning a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics and Business and his law degree from Nashville School of Law.
Prior to joining MHPS, John served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Philip E. Smith of the Fourth Circuit Court for Davidson County, Tennessee. Since entering private practice, John has been an active member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Nashville Bar Association, Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association and Harry Phillips American Inn of Court.
John is a 2018 graduate of the Nashville Bar Foundation Leadership Forum, designed to educate emerging legal leaders in the community. He also serves on the Board for the Tennessee Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, most recently on the Executive Committee as Secretary from 2017 to present. Through the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association, he sits on the Domestic Legislative Committee and assists with changes in family law on Capitol Hill.
Additionally, John volunteers for local legal clinics and Habitat for Humanity, recently framing a house for a family in the community. In his free time, you’ll find him on the golf course or cheering on his beloved Vols.
