John R. Wilks joined MHPS in 2015. John’s practice at MHPS is primarily devoted to estate planning, real estate transactions and business formation.

About John R. Wilks

A native of Springfield, Tennessee, John R. Wilks grew up the son a country lawyer, the late Larry D. Wilks, former President of the Tennessee Bar Association. John graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee, earning a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics and Business and his law degree from Nashville School of Law.

Prior to joining MHPS, John served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the late Honorable Philip E. Smith of the Fourth Circuit Court for Davidson County, Tennessee. Since entering private practice, John has been an active member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Nashville Bar Association, Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association, Robertson County Bar Association and Harry Phillips American Inn of Court.

John is a 2018 graduate of the Nashville Bar Foundation Leadership Forum and 2020 graduate of the Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law, programs designed to educate emerging leaders in the community. He also serves on the Board for the Tennessee Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, most recently on the Long-Range Planning Committee. During his tenure on the Board, he has served as Wills for Heroes Captain, Secretary and Middle Tennessee Governor. He also serves on the Steering Committee for the Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law program.

Additionally, John volunteers for high school mock trial tournaments, local legal clinics and Habitat for Humanity. In his free time, you’ll find him cheering on his beloved Vols.
