Jennifer L. Sheppard is a lifelong resident of Nashville, TN having graduated from Hillwood High School in 1997. She attended The University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she earned a B.A. in 2000 with a focus on Political Science and Child & Family Studies. She was a member of both Phi Eta Sigma and Gamma Beta Phi Honor Societies. Jennifer continued her education at The Nashville School of Law where she earned a J.D. in 2005.

Jennifer maintained a solo practice in Nashville for eight years before joining her current firm, Martin Heller Potempa & Sheppard, in 2013. Her early practice included criminal defense, family law and various other matters of civil litigation. Over the last several years, her desire to make a difference has led her to focus largely on family disputes of all types. Today, Jennifer handles cases involving probate litigation, conservatorships, guardianships, the administration of estates, custody, dependency and neglect, and appellate work. She currently accepts a high volume of court appointments through the Probate Court in Davidson County in which she serves as Guardian ad litem, Attorney ad litem, and Conservator for disabled adults.

Jennifer is a founding partner at Martin Heller Potempa & Sheppard, PLLC. She is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, the Nashville Bar Association, the Probate Committee for the Nashville Bar, the Conservatorship Association of Tennessee. She’s also involved with Cable: Moving Women Forward and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. She serves on the Office of Conservatorship Management’s Policies and Procedures Committee and she is an active volunteer for the Legal Aid Society.

Jennifer is a frequent lecturer for the Nashville Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the Nashville Business Institute on topics related to child custody, probate administration, probate litigation, client relations, and professional ethics.

On a personal note, Jennifer was recently married. Her husband, Ben M. Jacobs, is also a Nashville native. They have a cat and a (mostly) German Shepherd Dog, courtesy of the Middle Tennessee German Shepherd Rescue. Jennifer is a fitness enthusiast and has been a member of Iron Tribe Belmont for a number of years. When Jennifer is not working, she enjoys travelling, going to music festivals, devouring a good slice of deep-dish pizza, and spending time with loved ones.
